Stunning 80% 5 A*-C at Casterton

A stunning 80% of students got 5 A*-C at GCSE at Casterton College Rutland this year, with 73% getting 5 A*-C including English and Maths.

This is the best set of results for the college by a huge 6%.

100% of higher ability students got 5 A*-C with English and Maths, well above the national average and Bourne Grammar School, proving yet again that higher ability students make more progress at Casterton. These students achieved an average grade A for all their subjects.

Our Pupil Premium students did fantastically well, with 52% getting 5 A*-C with English and Maths, reducing the gap between them and all students nationally to 15%, which is 12% better than the national gap.

Maths results at the college were truly outstanding with nearly 90% getting a grade C or more; way higher than the national average. Also strong were English Literature results with 94% getting a C or above and 78% of English Language doing likewise.

Principal Carl Smith said, “a year ago I promised ‘virtually a new school’ and these results, together with our superb A Level results, prove that is what is happening. There has been a real and fundamental improvement in standards at the college since 2014 and we are now in the top 10% of similar schools nationally. Standards of teaching and behaviour are similarly outstanding and the great news for parents is that we have places to fill so if you want your child to start with us this year then pay us a visit”
