Well-being is a student's mental and physical health, emotional safety, feeling of belonging, sense of purpose, and ability to achieve success within the school environment; essentially, how well a student feels and functions both academically and personally while at school. A school with a positive culture creates an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
Students with a higher sense of wellbeing tend to perform better in school and later in life. They are more likely to succeed in employment, maintain healthy relationships, and contribute positively to society. Schools play an essential role in supporting young people in making healthy life choices and understanding the consequences of their actions.
Our approach is based on
- Making students feel valued
- Creating a welcoming environment
- Providing one-to-one support
- Promoting a positive classroom environment
- Fostering a sense of belonging
- Partnerships with parents
- Encouraging healthy lifestyles
- Teaching social and emotional skills
Your child can report any worries or concerns they might have to their tutor, head of year, student services, assistant principals, mental health lead or classroom teachers. They can do this online via our whisper app or in person at student services. Your child needn't worry about the reaction of their peers because we are very discrete and understand how to manage problems without making them worse.
Our DfE accredited thrive programme is designed to help our young people feel they belong and want to be in school. It is about understanding and supporting them on their journey to adulthood. Of course, it is normal for young people to experience a variety of emotions in their early teenage years, but sometimes they might need a little more support, and we can call upon many specialists to help them, always offered with care, kindness and compassion.
