Inquiry & Application Process

Mid Year Entry Academic Year 2024/25

Mid-Year Move

If you are considering moving your child from another secondary school to us, we advise you first to ring us and arrange a meeting and tour. Whilst this is not a formal part of the admissions process, it is a good way for you to find out what life at Casterton is really like. If you like what you see, you can apply for a place online. Mid-year admissions follow an on-boarding process to ensure students get off to a flying start.

If your child is in Year 6 and applying for a place for September in Year 7, you should just follow the national  admission application form forwarded to you in the autumn term. You can find out more about this by selecting Year 7 admissions in the blue box to the right of this page.

If we are oversubscribed for a particular year, the order of the waiting list is determined by our admissions policy  as follows:

  1. Looked after Children (LAC) or Previously Looked after
  2. Children of college staff
  3. Sibling Link
  4. Children living in catchment villages (see admissions policy)
  5. Children who live nearest to the college by distance.

Children of UK Services personnel and other Crown Services can be assured that their needs are taken into  account. If a move to the area is anticipated, we will need proof of the posting, e.g. an official government letter  from MOD, FCO or GCHQ. This should include a relocation date and an intended address. The unit postal address  or quartering area address will be used for consideration against the oversubscription criteria.

Children who are the subject of a direction by the LA must take precedence over those on the waiting list in    accordance with the Fair Access Protocol.

All applications declined through the oversubscription process will be given the opportunity to join the waiting  list. Being placed on the waiting list does not remove an applicant’s right to appeal.

Please read our Admissions Policy carefully for more details. If your application is unsuccessful, you have a right  to appeal. An appeal can be submitted using the Leicestershire Local Authority’s ‘Notice of Appeal’ procedures.  Leicestershire Local Authority will arrange the appeal on behalf of the governors to be heard by an independent  panel, whose decision is binding on all parties.

If you wish to make a mid-year application, you will need to complete an online Request for School Placement  form, below. If you have any questions, please contact our Admissions Officer – Mrs Helen Cook on 01780  762168 or CookH@castertoncollege.com.
