A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world

Computer Science leads to students learning vital skills as part of the curriculum. It provides excellent preparation for higher study and jobs in the field of computer science, and develops critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills through the study of computer programming. Students who study the subject regularly progress into having careers in technology and using the skills they have learned to progress in the working world.

IT

IT will inspire and equip pupils with the confidence to use skills that are relevant to the IT sector and more widely. It covers the use of IT in the digital world, Cyber Security, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Manipulation, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Augmented Reality (AR). This course will help pupils develop independence and confidence in using skills that are relevant to the IT sector. The qualification will also help to develop learning and skills that can be used in other life and work situations, such as designing and creating solutions for a given purpose, problem-solving, use of planning techniques and selecting the best tools and techniques for a given scenario.
